Operation Bootcamp

Operation Bootcamp is a weekend military family retreat experience specifically designed for military families – from all branches of military services and statuses.

This retreat strives to validate military families’ experiences they have faced and continue to face during to the uniqueness of military life. This shared experience is sure to strengthen existing bonds, as well as begin new friendships with others in various phases of military life.

Guest Speaker: Dr. David Mathias

Dr. Mathias earned his medical degree at University of Michigan Medical School with a specialty in
pediatrics. A son of missionaries and knowing the financial burden of medical school, he joined the Army.

Capt. Mathias deployed to Sadr City, Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division in March of 2004. He was the
lone doctor to serve more than 400 troops. He had never treated a bullet wound. On April 4th, known as
Black Sunday, insurgents attacked. The events of that deadly day and its aftermath are chronicled in
the book, "The Long Road Home: A Story of War and Family," by Martha Raddatz and the basis of a
National Geographic mini-series.

Dr. Mathias now treats children at Marshfield Clinic-Wausau Center and volunteers with church youth.
He and his wife, Rhonda, had their first child prior to his tour in Iraq. They are currently a family of eight.
Like most veterans and military families, their experiences are a never-ending process to understand,
contextualize and accept. Romans 8:28 provides reassurance, "And we know that in all things God
works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Private guest room with private bathroom - sleeps 4, queen bed with bunk. Shared kitchenette and leisure area.

Family Cabins
Private cabin - sleeps 4-10, queen bed with bunks. Private kitchen and a leisure area with a woodstove or fireplace.
